Working Group 3

Bioinformatics support

Person in charge: José María Carazo

Group: J. Alberto Medina, Salvador Martínez, Concha Gil, Rune Mathiessen, Fernando Corrales, Joaquín Abián, Nieves Ibarrola, Manuel S. del Pino, Samuel Ogueta

The specific objectives of the bioinformatics suporting area are:

Provide bioinformatics support to the proteomics facilities of the different nodes in recommending software, hardware, databases and LIMS, such that the need for data handling and data management are sufficiently addressed, assuring along the different phases of the project, that data produced in the different services is sufficiently annotated, data management standardization protocols can be set in place and data exchange between services is possible.

Assure the identification of data pre-processing tools -such as filtering- appropriate for the work of each service.

Once data have been pre-processed, assure the access to reference protein and protein-related databases as well as search engines required for a proper protein identification and characterization.

Study the needs for data integration from different sources required for the appropriate data analysis tasks performed at the different nodes.

Current activities:

Currently, the working group is working in incorporating HUPO-PSI standards in ProteoRed, providing a transparent platform to exchange data in a standard format.

Recently, WG3 has developed a MIAPE generator tool that allow to generate MIAPE Gel Electrophoresis, Gel Informatics, Mass Spectrometry and Mass Spectrometry Informatics documents. To use this tool you only have to create your account here.
